Land Based fishing in Ponte Vedra

Fishing in Ponte Vedra

Hidden along the Historic Coast are areas where anglers can cast a line to try their luck at catching dinner. Ponte Vedra provides unique examples of places to target Redfish, Flounder, Trout, Whiting, Pompano, and other species that are fun to catch and provide great table-fare. For some anglers, the calm waters of the intracoastal are more inviting while others prefer the excitement of fishing in the surf off of the beaches. You can find information about many of the species we commonly catch here and the techniques we use to catch them. Bait and tackle shops are great resources to discover what species to focus on and what baits to use for them.

Here are some of the most popular locations for fishing from land in the Ponte Vedra Area:

Nocatee Landing - Tucked away deep inside the Nocatee preserve this localized fishing spot offers great shore-based fishing. You will be fishing on the intracoastal waterway along the banks and oyster bars. The vast mud banks and scattered oysters provide great habitat for Flounder and Redfish. You can find more information about this location here

Guana Lake - Truly one of the most beautiful areas to fish on the Historic Coast is Guana Lake and dam. This area is located inside of Guana State Park and provides exceptional fishing on the lake side and the intracoastal side of the dam. There are options to rent kayaks and paddle boards to explore the fishery deeper into the lake too. This area is unique because large boats are prohibited from entering allowing kayak anglers to find parts of old Florida few people experience.

Mickler’s Landing - If surf fishing is more of your style, Mickler’s Landing is the place to be. This area is located nearly half-way between Ponte Vedra and St. Augustine. Anglers often have good luck in this area because it doesn’t receive as much pressure as the other beaches. There are facilities and picnic tables in the area too making this a great spot to bring your family!

Mickler’s Wharf - This is a small park located in an area that provides history and a great location to fish from. Back on the intracoastal, you will be surprised by the beauty and abundant fishery this location has to offer.

Charter Fishing - If you are not looking for the DIY experience, there are charter fishing guides in the Ponte Vedra area that would be happy to show you around. They can provide the knowledge, tackle, and boat to bring you along for a successful day on the water. You can find more information about charter fishing in the Ponte Vedra area here

Ponte Vedra offers a lot of shore based fishing areas for the anglers looking for more of an adventure. Not all of these places have names and sometimes they are not very easy to get to, but local bait shops and other anglers may provide some secret areas to go check out.
